WHERE I COME FROM
Dr. Charlie E. McAdoo II is a longtime resident of DeKalb County, Georgia, with deep roots in communities that value education, service, and faith. Raised in a family committed to helping others, he learned early the importance of public service and community leadership. His mother served as a Pre-K special needs teacher, dedicating her career to supporting young learners, while his father has long served as a United Methodist pastor. These early influences helped shape Dr. McAdoo’s lifelong commitment to education, mentorship, and service.
Both Dr. McAdoo and his wife are proud products of K-12 public schools, an experience that deeply informs their belief in the power and importance of public education. Their family’s connection to public schools continues through their children, who have attended public schools for their entire educational journey. Having experienced firsthand the impact of strong public schools, the McAdoo family remains committed to supporting and strengthening educational opportunities for all students and families.
Dr. McAdoo and his wife, Dr. Billynda McAdoo, have been married for 24 years. Dr. Billynda McAdoo is a physician at Emory University School of Medicine and shares a strong commitment to service and community engagement. Together, they have raised two sons who continue the family’s tradition of academic excellence and leadership. Their oldest son, Charlie McAdoo III, is currently a sophomore at Howard University, while their youngest son, Billy McAdoo, is a sophomore in high school.
For more than two decades, Dr. McAdoo has served students and families as an educator, mentor, and community leader in DeKalb County and the surrounding region. His work has extended beyond the classroom through youth mentorship, coaching, leadership development programs, and initiatives that connect students to college and career opportunities. Grounded in family, faith, and a deep belief in public education, Dr. McAdoo remains committed to strengthening schools and communities for the next generation.
